Castle Park Energy Centre - BCC
Project Type: NEC 4 D&B Contract
Client: Bristol City Council
Spend: circa 4.5M
Alongside our sister company PMRS, we provided Project and Commercial Management and Principal Design Duties for a new energy centre at Castle Park in Bristol. Acting as Contract Administrator, Project Manager, and Commercial Quantity Surveyors for Bristol City Council (BCC) and Goram Homes (GH), we offered full project support. This Energy Centre is part of BCC's wider Heat Networks.
Phase 1 at Castle Park Depot includes a 3MW compressed spray Ammonia water source heat pump, the largest in England, supplying over 1,000 domestic properties. The project also features a Thermal Store and backup gas boilers.
Challenges included an ancient monument (The Castle), UXO on site, and the Harbour Wall. The project, excluding the buried heat network and water source heat pump design and installation, was managed under an NEC 4 Option A Design & Build Contract with Vital Energi as Principal Contractor. Completed in June 2022, it was delivered on time and within budget. The Energy Centre will also support a future mixed-use development by Goram Homes.
