E.ON Community Energy - Cranbrook Energy Centre
Client: E.ON
Spend: circa 40M
The construction of E.ON's £3 million energy centre in the Southwest, serving Exeter's Skypark and Cranbrook developments started circa 10 years ago. The 30,000 sq. ft building was the first of its kind in the Southwest, and was developed jointly with regeneration specialist Dawnus Construction.
We procured and delivered the E.ON facility including the Main UDHN spin and associated plot connections which was to serve as the energy hub for a ground- breaking 75km district heating network that now provides a sustainable and cost-effective energy to a new town in Devon with Commercial businesses, new school and 2,900 homes in phase 1 and a further 2000 in phase 2.
The system was planned to save an estimated 13,000 tonnes of CO2 per year, the equivalent of removing 5,200 cars from the road. It will potentially make Cranbrook one of the largest low carbon communities within the UK.
The Energy Centre was delivered one week earlier than programme and to budget. This was due to DQS extending the hours on site coupled with better logistical planning, to allow the main plant to be installed at an accelerated rate. The UDHN and connections continue on phase 2 at this time.
