E.ON Community Energy - Scotswood Energy Centre
Client: E.ON
Spend: Circa 20M
The Scotswood Energy Centre, provides lower carbon heating and hot water to a community of 1,800 homes in the Scotswood area of Newcastle-upon-Tyne by The New Tyne West Development Company (NTWDC).
The new-build community supplies more energy efficient energy supply through a district heating network. The energy centre and pipeline network provides a constant supply of heat and hot water to homes, meaning there is no need for individual gas boilers. This reduces carbon emissions by up to 35 per cent and deliver significant energy cost savings for residents.
The system was planned to save an estimated 13,000 tonnes of CO2 per year, the equivalent of removing 5,200 cars from the road. It will potentially make Cranbrook one of the largest low carbon communities within the UK.
The Energy Centre was delivered one week earlier than programme and to budget. This was due to DQS extending the hours on site coupled with better logistic planning, to allow the main plant to be installed at an accelerated rate.
